I've been storing my beans in the freezer for a decade and just found out why that's bad
My friend, who roasts his own beans in Austin, came over last week and saw my freezer full of coffee bags. He just stared and said, 'You know that's basically making them taste like your freezer, right?' I argued that it kept them fresh, but he explained that the constant freezing and thawing every morning lets moisture in and kills the flavor. I did a test with two bags of the same beans, one in the freezer and one in a dark cabinet, and brewed them side by side. The cabinet beans had a much brighter, clearer taste, while the frozen ones just tasted flat and a bit weird. Has anyone else made this switch and noticed a big difference, or am I just catching up?
