PSA: I thought weighing my beans was overkill, then a $12 scale in my Akron kitchen proved me wrong
For years I scooped coffee with the same old plastic scoop and never thought twice about it. Then last month a coworker at the hospital kept going on about her kitchen scale, and I figured it was just one more thing to clutter the counter. I finally grabbed a cheap $12 one at a Target in Akron, mostly to settle an argument with my husband about who makes the stronger pot. The first morning I weighed my usual scoop and it came out to 9 grams, not the 14 I would have guessed. I bumped it up to 15 grams for the same amount of water and the cup honestly tasted fuller and sweeter, less sharp on the back end. Now I weigh every pot before my night shifts, and the coffee tastes the same from cup one to cup four, which never happened before. So what is your go to ratio by weight, and did it take you a while to trust the scale too?
