DAE remember when you could just dump any dark roast in a drip machine and call it good?
For about six years I scooped pre-ground stuff from the grocery store into a $20 drip maker and never thought twice about it. Then last March my brother in Austin handed me a cup he made with a $12 hand grinder and a scale, and the difference hit me so hard I felt kind of dumb. Now I weigh out 18 grams every morning, grind right before the water hits, and I actually taste the fruity notes in a light roast from a place down the street here in Portland. The weird part is my old drip machine is still sitting on the counter collecting dust because I went full pour over and never went back. I keep wondering if I'm just wasting 15 minutes a morning for a slightly better cup or if the ritual itself is half the point. How long did it take you to settle on one brewing method instead of switching every other week?
