Painted my kitchen cabinets instead of replacing them and saved $4,000
After 20 years in our house the oak cabinets just looked tired and dark. My wife wanted to tear them out and go to a big box store for new ones but that quote came back around $5,000. I spent a weekend pulling all the doors off, sanding them down, and using a good quality primer and paint. Total cost was maybe $60 for materials and another $40 for new brushed nickel pulls from the hardware store. The kitchen feels twice as big now and it took me about 12 hours of work spread across three days. Has anyone else had good luck painting their old cabinets instead of replacing them?
