Best $40 I ever made was reading signs for a blind guy at a farmers market

Last summer I was between jobs and saw a post on Craigslist asking for help at the Saturday farmers market downtown. I figured it'd be hauling boxes or something, but nope. This blind vendor needed someone to stand next to his booth and read the handwritten price signs to customers who asked. People kept walking past because the signs were tiny and faded, so I basically became his loudmouth salesperson for 4 hours. He paid me $40 cash and gave me a bag of apples which were actually bruised but whatever. Has anyone else gotten stuck with a gig that was way weirder than the ad made it sound?

Wait, is it weird that I used to think blind people couldn't really work normal jobs like selling at a market? Yeah I was totally wrong about that. Honestly this story kind of changed how I see stuff because it sounds like that guy ran his whole booth and just needed one small piece of help to make it work.

Yeah, I used to assume the same thing honestly. This story changed my mind too.
