Last summer I was between jobs and saw a post on Craigslist asking for help at the Saturday farmers market downtown. I figured it'd be hauling boxes or something, but nope. This blind vendor needed someone to stand next to his booth and read the handwritten price signs to customers who asked. People kept walking past because the signs were tiny and faded, so I basically became his loudmouth salesperson for 4 hours. He paid me $40 cash and gave me a bag of apples which were actually bruised but whatever. Has anyone else gotten stuck with a gig that was way weirder than the ad made it sound?
Last Saturday I made $350 in 4 hours cleaning gutters and trimming hedges for an old lady. The funny part was she paid me in cash and then asked if I'd come back next week to move a piano, which got me thinking - is it better to stick with quick outdoor jobs like that or take on the indoor heavy stuff where you might break something? What do you guys usually do when a one-time gig turns into an offer for something completely different?
