Vent: My aunt thought shellac was for baking
I was putting shellac on a table when she came over. She asked if it was the same stuff used in candy apples, and it got weird. What's the most off-base comment you've gotten about your work?

Just label your food-safe shellac jar. Keep the wood finish on a different shelf so it's clear.

Wait, but shellac is used for food sometimes. It's in candy apples and other sweets as a glaze. Your aunt wasn't totally off base. That stuff is called confectioner's glaze. Misunderstandings like that happen all the time. I've heard worse where people think wood finish is edible.

Confectioner's glaze shows up on tons of candy, like those shiny jelly beans. @dakotat45 has a point that it's just shellac used for food. But is it really that serious if someone mistakes wood finish for edible glaze? The food grade stuff is processed to be safe, so why get worked up over it?
