Vent: A client's 'quick fix' turned a simple chair into a three-day nightmare

They tried to strip an old finish with oven cleaner, which soaked deep into the oak and reacted with every stain I tried. I had to sand the entire thing down to raw wood, losing a full day of other work. What's the worst 'helpful' thing a customer has ever done to a piece before bringing it to you?

Oh, that's a tough one. I've seen people try to fix wobbly chairs with regular wood glue and no clamps, which never holds. It just makes a huge mess I have to clean out before doing the repair right. It always ends up taking more time than if they'd just left it alone.

It's the worst kind of DIY.

I used to think quick fixes saved time, but seeing that mess changed my mind.
