Spent $400 on a fancy dehumidifier for my finishing room
It was a total waste because the built-in humidistat was junk, reading 20% off. I should have just bought a separate sensor for $30 and kept my old unit. Anyone have a brand they trust for accurate climate control?

Tell me about it, I've bought my share of fancy junk that can't read a room. CaseyW12 has the right idea going with a separate sensor, because trusting the built-in one is like asking a cat to guard your sandwich. I just tape a cheap sensor next to the work now and call it a day.

Yeah, those built-in sensors are always suspect. I ended up going with a Govee Bluetooth hygrometer for my shop, it was cheap and it syncs with my phone so I can check logs. The accuracy has been solid for me, maybe give that a look. What kind of tolerances are you working with for your finishes?
