Heard a guy at the supply house swear by vinegar for stripping old milk paint

Honestly, I thought it was just some old wives' tale he was passing on. Tbh, I was stripping a 1920s dresser last month and the chemical stripper just wasn't cutting it. I mixed up a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water, let it sit for about 20 minutes, and it lifted the paint right off without damaging the wood underneath. Has anyone else tried this on a stubborn finish and had it work?

Yeah, @lewis.diana, just a light scrub after.

Oh come on @wrenstone, vinegar never worked that well for me. It just made the room smell like a salad.

Ngl, did you have to scrub much after the vinegar sat, or did it just wipe clean?
