Rant: Caught myself stacking firewood wrong for 5 years

Honestly, I was visiting my uncle Jim out in Des Moines last fall and he watched me stack a cord of split oak. He just shook his head and said, "You're trapping moisture between the rows, kid." I had been stacking bark-side up the whole time, thinking it looked nicer. Turns out I was basically inviting rot into every single piece I cut for half a decade. Has anyone else had a simple skill they were doing backwards without realizing it?

Bro that's exactly the kind of thing that gets me. It's like how everyone thinks you should wash a cast iron pan with soap but actually you're just stripping the seasoning. There's this whole hidden layer of small stuff we all do wrong just because nobody ever told us the real reason behind the default way. It makes me wonder how many other basic life things I've been messing up for years without ever knowing.

Used to think bark-down looked best too, but this makes way more sense.
