PSA: Don't waste $40 on that fancy compost bin I bought
I saw this sleek stainless steel compost bin online that promised zero smell and easy cleaning. Paid $40 for it three weeks ago and now it's just a stinky mess in my kitchen corner. The lid doesn't seal right and fruit flies got in after two days. Has anyone found a cheap plastic one that actually works?

Got a buddy who bought the same fancy stainless bin you're talking about. His fruit flies were so bad his wife made him take the whole thing to the dump after just a week. He switched to a plain white plastic one from the grocery store for like eight bucks, zero smell issues for six months now. Sometimes the cheap stuff really does work better.

@Sethc12 your buddy's story is exactly what happened to me last year with a fancy stainless bin from that popular brand. I brought it home excited and within 3 days the fruit flies were swarming around it like crazy. My wife was so annoyed she threatened to throw the whole thing in the backyard. I finally gave up and bought a basic white plastic one from Target for 10 bucks and its been perfect for 8 months now. The stainless ones look nice but they just don't keep smells in the way cheap plastic lids do. Sometimes the simplest solution really is the best one no matter how much you spend.
