Friend asked me to lie about his resume for a job referral, what would you do?

Read a study once that said something like 30% of employers actually check references and backgrounds closely now (way more than people think). Being caught in a lie like that can kill your shot at getting hired anywhere in that field later on. Probably best to offer to help your friend practice for the interview instead, that's real support without the risk.

Man, that's a tough spot to be in. What worked for me was just being straight up with my friend - I told him I'd help him prep for the interview and talk about his real strengths, but I wasn't going to lie about anything on paper. He was disappointed at first but ended up landing the job anyway because he actually knew his stuff once he relaxed. The worst that can happen is they catch the lie and both of you get burned. Your reputation takes a hit too, and that follows you around longer than you'd think.
