The shop radio filter trick that saved my ears

Heard a younger guy in a shop in Tulsa raving about those earmuff style Bluetooth muffs with a built in mic. Figured he was just spoiled, but I tried a pair while running a dyno pull last Tuesday and could actually hear the knock sensor tone over the noise. Anyone else running active noise cancelling muffs, or is it just another gadget that gets lost by Friday?
