Still split on whether to torque head bolts wet or dry after that 6.0 Powerstroke fiasco in Ohio
I was at a shop outside Columbus where a guy torqued his studs dry and didn't use any ARP lube, and the block cracked within 500 miles. But then another shop swears by wet torque with engine oil, and they've never had a failure. Which way do you guys lean and has anyone actually had a bad outcome from one method?

... so my buddy at a shop in Dayton had a 6.0 come in with a blown head gasket, he torqued the studs dry like the manual said, and within a month the customer was back with a cracked block. He switched to wet torque with ARP lube on the next one and that truck's been running for two years now with no issues. I think it's more about the stud quality and surface prep than wet or dry, honestly.

600 miles on a dry torque job here and my block's still singing a happy tune (knock on wood).
