Spent a full day chasing a phantom knock on a 6.7 Powerstroke

Everyone said it had to be a rod bearing, but it was just a cracked flex plate that you could only see with the transmission dropped. Took me 12 hours to find it. Anyone have a faster way to check for that without pulling the whole unit?

@the_amy I mean a borescope through the inspection hole is a good idea, but you gotta remember those cracks don't always line up with that hole. You can barely see the whole flex plate that way. Dropping the trans is still the only way to be 100% sure.

Ever try a borescope through the bell housing inspection hole? Might save you some time next go around. Those cracks hide until they don't.

Been there. Cracked flex plates are sneaky.
