PSA: That weird knock on a 6.7 Powerstroke might just be a $4 injector crush washer you missed.

Spent three full days chasing a phantom noise on a customer's truck, pulling the valve covers and checking the turbo twice, before I finally found a single, slightly out-of-place injector washer that took 20 minutes to swap once I saw it.

Nah, I gotta push back on that. Sometimes the cheap easy stuff is the last thing you check cause you already ruled it out in your head. You think "no way it's that simple" so you go looking for something harder. That's the trap. Three days on a washer ain't bad if you learned something about the rest of the truck while you were digging. Plus now you KNOW it's not the turbo or the valve train. That confidence is worth more than the time you spent.

Oh man, "three full days" chasing that noise is the story of my life. I once spent a whole weekend convinced my own truck had a spun bearing, only to find a loose heat shield rattling on the exhaust. The simplest fix always seems to hide after you've already done the hardest work.

Always check the cheap, easy stuff first, even when you're sure it's something major.
