Just read a study from a university saying 40% of modern diesel particulate filter failures are from short trips, not bad fuel.
Found it in a trade journal article from last month. Always blamed the fuel quality first, but the data shows the regen cycle gets interrupted too often. How many of you actually check trip length history before pulling a DPF?

Makes sense, the computer never gets a chance to finish cleaning it.

My grandfather was a mechanic for 40 years and he always said cars need to breathe. He had this old Buick that he'd take on the highway every Sunday just to let it run for an hour. Said the computer in modern cars gets confused when you're always turning it off after five minutes of driving. Kind of like how my laptop acts up when I never let it restart for updates.

Heard a mechanic on a podcast say the same thing. They called it "death by a thousand short errands." Ever notice how many people just hop to the store and back?
