I finally got that old Detroit 60 series to stop weeping oil
The rear main seal had been seeping for months on a customer's dump truck. After three tries with different installation tools, I got a clean seat with a Lisle alignment sleeve and it's been dry for two weeks now. Anyone have a better trick for those stubborn two-piece seals?

Three tries and it finally held? Man I would've lost my mind after the second one lol. Those two piece seals are the worst, feels like you need a degree in black magic to get them seated right. I've heard of guys freezing them first but never tried it myself.

Freezer trick works but you gotta work fast once it's out.

My uncle swears by the freezer trick for stubborn o-rings. He does it with the rear main on old Ford trucks. Says it gives you an extra thirty seconds of wrestling time before it warms up and expands. Still looks like a fight every single time.
