Got a stubborn 6.7 Powerstroke injector out with a 3/8 impact and a prayer
The book says to use a slide hammer, but I zipped it right out with my Milwaukee impact on a low setting. Is that a legit shortcut or just asking for trouble on the threads?

Man you are playing with fire. That impact gun puts way more force on those threads than a slide hammer ever would. Just because it came out this time doesn't mean you didn't stretch or damage the threads in the head. The book says slide hammer for a real reason, to pull it straight out without twisting force. You got lucky, but it's a great way to turn a simple job into a nightmare needing a whole new cylinder head.

Slide hammers can twist too, they're not perfect.

Did you try a little heat before hitting it with the impact? I had a stuck glow plug on my 7.3 once. Tried the slide hammer for an hour. Nothing. Got frustrated, grabbed my impact gun with a wobble socket. Came right out. Threads looked fine. I get what @the_anthony is saying, he's not wrong about the force. But sometimes a slide hammer just won't cut it on something that's been heat cycled for years. The trick is knowing when to use each tool. Impact gun is risky but can save your day.
