Found a stat about DEF contamination that floored me
I read a report from a fleet maintenance shop in Ohio that said 40% of their tow calls last year were from DEF quality issues in newer trucks. Turns out a bad batch of DEF can crystallize in the SCR system and cost over $3,000 to fix. Has anyone else seen this kind of number in their own shop?

@the_ryan nailed it. That $3,000 number is rough but honestly I've seen worse. We had a guy come in last month who got a bad batch from a truck stop and it crystalized so bad inside the SCR that it took out the NOx sensor and the DEF injector too. Total bill was pushing $4,500 by the time we pressure washed the whole system and replaced the melted lines. And you're right about fleet numbers - we see about 30% of our tow calls tied to DEF problems, mostly from people buying those no-name containers off the shelf instead of the certified stuff.
