Finally got a 24-valve Cummins to fire after a full rebuild, took 6 hours of cranking and troubleshooting
Had a 2001 Dodge 3500 that sat for 2 years before I touched it. Turned out a ground wire on the ECM was corroded almost through, swapped it and she lit right up. Anyone else run into weird electrical gremlins on these 24-valve trucks?

On my 2001 I found the lift pump harness had rubbed through where it passed near the alternator bracket, caused a slow battery drain nobody could figure out for months. Grounds and power feeds on these trucks are notorious for breaking connection when they get hot, even if they look fine cold. Worth checking your alternator output too since a failing one can trick the ECM into thinking the truck is still cranking.

Lost count how many times I've chased electrical ghosts on these trucks. Found one where a little bit of corrosion on the ECM plug pins was enough to make it act like the battery was dead, even with a brand new optima under the hood. Spent a whole weekend swapping parts before I got mad enough to wiggle every wire under the dash.
