Vent: The day my business breakfast meetup exposed the gap in my pitch
Last Thursday I sat in this cafe in Austin for a meetup and watched three people nail their 30 second intros while I stumbled through mine. One guy mentioned the exact metric a local restaurant chain cares about, foot traffic data, and got a follow up meeting on the spot. I spent the ride home realizing I had been selling my service as 'good WiFi' instead of 'keeps customers in your store 20% longer'. Does anyone else struggle with translating what you do into what the other person's boss wants to hear?

That's a brutal feeling but honestly so common. That exact moment where you hear someone else say it better and you just think 'oh no, that's what I meant all along'. The foot traffic guy probably practiced that line a hundred times before it sounded natural. Don't beat yourself up over one bad morning, most people in that room have been where you are. The good news is you already figured out the fix, now you just need to say it out loud a few times until it feels like yours.
