That Vegas switch room meltdown last Tuesday was brutal

Walked into a casino upgrade gig at 7am and the patch panel labels were all faded, nobody had a diagram, and the previous guy had punchdowns that looked like spaghetti. We spent 3 hours tracing 48 drops with a toner before we even started rolling out the new gear, and the floor manager kept asking if we were done yet. I get that old installs are messy but is it too much to ask for a single doc file or even a photo? Has anyone else burned a whole morning on phantom cabling in a live building?

So three hours of tracing cabling "burned a whole morning" sounds rough, but have you ever worked a job where the floor actually caught fire? A little toner time beats a real meltdown any day.
