Serious question, why did nobody tell me to label both ends of every cable run
Spent 3 hours crawling through a ceiling in a 40 year old office building in Denver tracing one ethernet run that I installed myself 6 months ago. I only labeled the switch side, so when the tenant moved a desk and yanked a patch panel port, I had zero clue which cable went where. I ended up unplugging 14 drops one at a time and yelling across the suite to a guy watching a port light. The whole time I was doing it wrong, every single install for years, and the fix costs like 4 bucks in tape and a sharpie. Anyone else learn this the hard way, and do you label both ends or just start using a toner every time?

Wait, is this really a big deal though? I've been doing installs for years and only labeling the patch panel side, and yeah it bit me exactly once, but that's what a toner is for. Four bucks in tape and a sharpie is fine until you're doing a 200 drop job and suddenly you're spending an extra two hours just writing on tiny cable jackets with your head stuffed in a ceiling. The real fix is a toner and a helper who can actually hear you, not more labels. You spent 3 hours because you were alone yelling across a suite, not because of tape. Honestly sounds like a bad day, not a bad method.
