Overheard a VAR pitch about 'AI-ready' switches and it got me thinking about upgrades

I was at a coffee shop in Austin last Tuesday and caught two sales guys pitching a campus refresh. They kept saying every core switch needs AI features now or you are 'falling behind'. On one hand, extra telemetry and automation could really help spot issues before users call. But on the other hand, most of our clients are running 10 year old gear that just works, and paying 3x for features nobody configures feels like a waste. Is it smarter to chase the new stuff for future proofing, or stick with basic L3 and spend the budget on more fiber runs? Has anyone else felt this pressure from vendors pushing AI as a must have when your actual pain is just port density and latency?
