Overheard a network guy in Dallas say he labels every cable at both ends with the same number
I was at a vendor event in Dallas last month and this network tech said he tags every cable at both ends with the same number so he never has to trace anything. I tried it on a 48 port switch at work and cut my troubleshooting time way down. Does anyone else do this, or do you just label one end and hope for the best?

At my last job we had a 200 pair bundle going between two closets and the old guys just labeled one end. Took me almost two hours with a toner to find one bad run during an outage. After that I started tagging both ends with the same number using a Brother label maker, port number on one side and the matching number on the other. It made moves adds and changes so much faster because you just look at the tag and know exactly where it lands. The only catch is you have to be consistent about it or the numbers stop meaning anything.
