Overheard a consultant say something about fiber termination that bugged me all week

I was at a coffee shop near our office in Denver last Tuesday and overheard this consultant talking to a client about fiber termination. He said something like, 'you just need to clean it once and it stays clean.' I nearly spit out my drink. I've been doing commercial networking for 8 years and I know for a fact that dust and oil get on those connectors every time you uncap them. One bad termination can kill a whole link budget and cause packet loss that takes days to track down. I wanted to walk over and tell him he was wrong but I kept my mouth shut. Has anyone else run into bad advice from consultants who sound confident but are clearly off base?

Man that kind of confident wrong info drives me nuts too, happens all the time.

Sure @loganhart, but maybe he's right if you use fusion splicing in a cleanroom environment.
