Keep seeing people daisy chain switches in office buildings without thinking about the power budget

I was helping a buddy wire up a small office in Chicago last Tuesday and he had 3 switches plugged into one UPS. Each switch was pulling around 30 watts and the UPS was rated for 150 watts max. He thought it was fine until the breaker tripped during a presentation. I always check the total draw before plugging anything in now. Has anyone else run into this with their setups?

Three switches on a 150W UPS sounds totally fine actually.

Yeah I've wired up a few of those smaller UPS units for folks and three switches is pretty standard. Just make sure the total draw from all three doesn't sneak up on you because a 150W unit won't handle much more than a modem, a router, and maybe one small light. I've seen people plug a mini fridge into one and wonder why it shuts off after ten minutes. You'll know pretty quick if you're overloading it because the unit will start beeping or click off. Keep an eye on what you plug in and it'll work fine for basic stuff.
