Just found out my office's new switch runs at 95 degrees constantly
Stumbled on a thermal imaging report from our building maintenance guy last Thursday. Turns out the new Aruba switch they installed in the IDF closet hits 95F even with the AC running. I checked the spec sheet after and the max operating temp is 113F so it's technically fine, but still freaked me out. Makes me wonder how many other network closets out there are running hot without anyone checking. Anybody else ever actually temp test their equipment rooms?

Did you check the inlet temp on the switch itself or just the ambient room temp?

Yeah you bring up a good point about checking the inlet temp specifically. I just checked the ambient room temp with a little thermometer I had nearby and called it good. But now I realize the switch itself could be running way hotter than the room air if it's in a closed cabinet or near other gear. I should have put my temp gun right on the inlet port to see what the actual air hitting the sensor was. Next time I'll definitely check that first before swapping out parts.
