An old cable guy in Fort Worth talked me out of running Cat5e in my first shop, and I'm glad he did
Back when I set up my first small office in Fort Worth, a cable tech named Roy with about 30 years on him told me not to bother with Cat5e and to run Cat6 even though it cost more up front. I figured he was just upselling me, but I went with it anyway, and 8 years later when we pushed everything to gigabit, I didn't have to rip out a single wall. Took his word on faith and it paid off, but I've also been burned by advice like that from other folks. Curious if anyone here has run into a case where the "future proof it" advice turned out to be a total waste of cash?
