My uncle insisted I try a pinch of salt in my coffee grounds, and I owe him an apology

He told me this for years, and I always brushed it off as some weird old habit. Last month, my morning brew was tasting super bitter, so I finally tried adding maybe a quarter teaspoon of table salt to the grounds in my French press before brewing. The bitterness was totally gone, and it just tasted smoother. I can't believe I waited this long to listen. Has anyone else tried this trick, or is there another simple hack that actually works?

Wait, a quarter teaspoon in a whole press? I use just a tiny pinch for a single cup, like two or three grains. That much salt would make mine taste weird.

Guess you owe him a salty apology.

Did my buddy ever tell you about the time he oversalted his coffee at a work meeting, @grant_palmer? He was trying to be fancy with a new grinder and misread the recipe (rookie move, I know). He took one sip, gagged, and then tried to pass it off as a "savory cold brew experiment." Everyone at the table just stared at him like he'd grown a second head. The boss actually made him go get a new cup from the break room.
