My French press broke after 4 years and I can't decide what to replace it with

Last Tuesday morning I dropped the carafe on my tile floor. Glass everywhere. That French press was from a thrift store in Portland, cost me 8 bucks. It made solid coffee for 4 years straight. Now I'm stuck deciding between another French press or trying an Aeropress. My buddy swears by his Moka pot but I don't want something that needs a stovetop. I brew one cup every morning before my delivery shift starts at 6 AM. Anyone here made the switch from French press to something else and not regretted it?

That "solid coffee for 4 years" bit got me thinking. I had a similar thing happen with my old Chemex. I had it for like 5 years, got it from a garage sale for 5 bucks. Then one morning I put it in the sink and the hot glass just cracked right down the middle. I got all dramatic about it, even tried to glue it back together like a dummy. Ended up buying a new one online but it never felt the same. I know that's not really answering your question about French press versus Aeropress, but the loss of a good coffee maker hits different.

How much time do you actually have in the morning to mess around with it? @thomas_young I get the attachment to an old coffee maker thing, I had a french press last me 6 years before I dropped it. The Aeropress is fast, like 90 seconds fast, but it's a different kind of coffee, way cleaner and lighter. If you're the kind of person who likes that heavy, gritty texture from a french press, the Aeropress might disappoint you. You might just want to grab another thrift store press and call it good.
