Just found out coffee was once banned in Mecca, and it had nothing to do with the caffeine

The "nothing to do with the caffeine" part got me. My grandpa used to tell me about how coffee houses in the old days were basically where people went to argue about politics and stir up trouble. They banned the drink but it was really about shutting down the hangouts. Like when a town bans a bar not because of the booze but because of the fights outside.
