Changed my mind about light roasts after my grinder broke mid batch
My Baratza Virtuoso died on me three weeks ago, right in the middle of grinding 40 grams of a light Ethiopian I'd been saving. I had to dig out this old Hario hand grinder from the back of a cabinet, and standing there cranking for what felt like 5 minutes, I actually started paying attention to the grind in a way I never do with the electric one. The cup came out way brighter and fruitier than what I'd been getting, and now I'm wondering if my electric grinder was smashing the beans more than I realized. Anyone else notice a real difference when they switched to hand grinding, or am I just fooling myself here?
