Maybe the guy was just really intense about his coffee and the barista was tired of getting splashed. Could be he was slamming the kettle down or swirling the grounds like he was trying to win a fight. Honestly, if someone told me my pour over technique was aggressive I'd probably take it as a challenge and get even more dramatic with it next time.
