Tried the magnetic sweep first time, it left soot in places I never checked before
Ran a full magnetic sweep job on a 3-story flue in Portland last Tuesday, thought it went smooth, then the homeowner called saying black dust was showing up in their bathroom vent. Turns out the magnet grabbed a loose collar fitting and dragged it up against the liner, which popped a seam I didn't even know was weak. I've always trusted the old brush and rod method, but that magnetic tool saved me a half hour, so now I'm torn on whether to stick with it or go back. Anyone else had a magnetic sweep shift something unexpected on them, or am I the only one who should've double checked the liner first?
