Three hours in a crawlspace and my back still hates me
Tuesday's job in Alexandria had a flue offset that was hidden behind a half-collapsed chase, and I spent most of the morning on my knees with a 4-foot flex rod trying to trace it. Has anyone else had one of those days where the homeowner just watches and asks if you're almost done every 20 minutes?
The homeowner asking if you're almost done every 20 minutes is probably the best part of that job. They're just making conversation while you're digging around in their dirt, honestly they're being polite. Most people would just leave you down there and slam the door. And that flue offset being hidden behind a collapsed chase, that's just part of the trade. If every job was easy to reach, anyone could do it and we'd all be making half what we do. Yeah your back hurts, but that's the price of being the guy who actually fixes things. The homeowner watching is just them making sure they're getting their money's worth, which is fair since you're charging them for the time.
