That new guy who told me I should switch to rotary brushes
Overheard a trainee at a supply shop last week telling his boss that conventional rod and brush work is obsolete. I've got 30 years of removing creosote buildup the old way and never had a single chimney fire complaint. Has anyone else had to deal with young sweepers dismissing proven techniques?

Wait, did he actually say conventional rod and brush work is obsolete? That's like telling a carpenter his hammer is outdated because someone invented a nail gun that jams every third nail. I've been in this trade since before some of these kids were born and I've seen more chimney fires from people using those fancy rotary gadgets wrong than I can count. A trainee telling his boss that in a supply shop of all places, that's a bold move for someone who probably hasn't even cleaned a hundred flues yet.

Man, you hit the nail on the head there. I've seen more than a few of those rotary gadgets strip the creosote loose but leave a gummy film behind that cakes up way worse than what a good rod and brush would have gotten.
