Spent $450 on a new carbon monoxide analyzer last fall. Best money I ever spent for peace of mind.

My old house had a CO detector that cost maybe thirty bucks. It went off once when the furnace cracked, and that was enough. Spending over four hundred on a fancy analyzer seems like overkill unless you're running a commercial kitchen or something. Most people just need a basic alarm that meets code. That extra cash could go toward fixing the actual problem if it ever comes up.

I mean, our cheap one failed silently and we only found out from a service guy.

But what if the basic alarm is the thing that fails, like @river182's service guy found? A cheap detector giving a false sense of safety is worse than none at all. That peace of mind might be worth the price for some people.
