Pro tip: check your vacuum motor brushes before a big job

I was talking to an older sweep at a supply house in Denver last month and he mentioned he always keeps spare motor brushes in his truck. He said he learned that after a motor died mid-sweep on a 300-year-old farmhouse. Has anyone else had a vacuum motor fail at the worst time?

82 farmhouse in Ohio, carpet was almost black with dirt, and my Kirby quit halfway through the living room. That brush sparking out was a nightmare, had to drive 40 minutes to find a parts store that had the right size. Now I keep two sets of brushes in my bag, one for the main machine and one for the backup. I also learned to check them after every 50 hours of use, just pull the cap and look. Saves a lot of headache later.

Oh man, for real. I'd be so mad if mine died mid-job.
