Old timer told me to soak my brushes in linseed oil overnight...
Met a guy named Hank at a trade show back in '08 who swore this would keep my wire brushes from rusting out so fast. I tried it for about 6 months and all it did was gum everything up and make a sticky mess on my tool bag. Anyone else get bad advice from a seasoned sweep that sounded good at the time?

That linseed trick just makes a nasty sludge, stick to wiping them dry.

Exactly. I tried the linseed oil thing on my old Lodge skillet and it turned into this gummy mess that was harder to clean than burnt bacon. Had to scrub it with steel wool for 20 minutes just to get back to square one. Wiping them dry with a paper towel after rinsing is way cleaner and avoids that weird sticky layer. Plus the oil can go rancid if you don't use the pan enough, which happened to my camping skillet after a few months in storage. Simple drying works every time without any of that fuss.
