My uncle swore by using a shop vac for a quick cleanout, and I finally tried it in a house in Boise.
The homeowner's cat, startled by the noise, jumped straight into the soot pile I'd just created... it looked like a tiny, angry ghost for a solid hour. Anyone have a better method for keeping pets calm during a sweep?

Forgive is a strong word for a cat. I mean, she still side-eyes me when I open that closet door. We've settled into a tense truce based on regular treats.
