Just read a study from the NFPA that said 25% of home heating fires involve chimneys, fireplaces, or solid fuel appliances.
Found it buried in their 2022 report, and it really drives home why our inspections are more than just cleaning soot. Anyone else share these stats with customers to underline the safety angle?

Honestly, I'm a bit wary of leading with that stat. It feels like using fear to sell the service. My experience is that most people just want their chimney cleaned and tune out the safety lecture. I find it works better to point out specific problems I find during the actual inspection, like a cracked flue tile. That makes the risk real to them without coming across as scary.

But how many cracked flue tiles do you actually find? I've had my chimney cleaned for years and they never find anything major. Feels like a sales tactic to make a simple cleaning sound like a life or death thing. Most people just get some soot buildup, not a house fire waiting to happen.
