Finally switched to nylon brush rods after 15 years of steel
I used steel rods on every job since I started sweeping back in 2009. Last month I did a job on a house built in 1920 with a really tight flue and the steel rods kept scraping the sides, leaving marks in the clay liner. A older sweeper I met at a supply shop in Columbus told me to try nylon rods for anything with older tile. First job with them felt weird, less feedback on the brush, but the cleanout was noticeably better and no new scratches on the liner. Anyone else made the switch later in their career and had to adjust how they judge the cleaning progress?
