Why does nobody mention swapping your cabinet doors for cheap butcher block
My kitchen cabinets looked horrible in my rental in Columbus, and the landlord would not let me paint them. I saw a video where a guy just unscrewed the doors and used $40 of butcher block from a salvage yard to make open shelves instead. I tried it over two weekends and spent $52 total on brackets and sandpaper. Honestly it made the whole room look bigger and my wife actually thought I hired someone. The shelves are not perfect but they hold my plates and mugs just fine. Has anyone else done this swap, and did you seal the wood or just leave it bare?
Lol I love that your wife thought you hired someone, that's the best review you can get for a $52 weekend project. I left mine bare for like 6 months and they got gross from steam over the stove, so I finally rubbed some mineral oil on them and it helped a lot. Seal them now if you're anywhere near where you cook, trust me.
