Tried painting my kitchen cabinets with a foam roller set from Dollar Tree

The paint started peeling off in strips after three days and I found out it was because I didn't degrease the cabinets first, learned that the hard way last weekend. Has anyone else had a cheap hack backfire on them like this?

...and my buddy Dave did the exact same thing with some cheap spray paint from the hardware store. He tried to paint his bathroom vanity without cleaning it first, just wiped it with a damp rag. Three days later the paint was bubbling up and he could peel it off in one big sheet, looked like a snake shedding its skin. He spent the whole next weekend sanding it all down and using actual primer, ended up costing him double what he would've spent just doing it right the first time.

yeah the degreasing thing gets people all the time, kitchens are nasty even when they look clean. I did the same thing with some cheap contact paper on my bathroom counter, thought I was being smart but it bubbled up in like a week from all the humidity. It's funny how trying to save that twenty bucks just ends up costing you way more time and frustration. I've learned the hard way that prepping is pretty much the whole job, the actual painting part is the easy bit.
