TIL my thrift store picture frames were making my walls look cheap

I had a bunch of mismatched frames from Goodwill on my living room wall for years, thinking it looked artsy. Then my sister visited and said, "It looks like a yard sale threw up in here." I realized the cheap, thin frames with different finishes just made the whole room feel cluttered and low effort. I spent a Saturday spray painting them all the same matte black and it made a huge difference for about $8. Anyone else have a cheap fix that pulled a room together?

Honestly, it's just picture frames. People get way too worked up about home decor. If you liked the mismatched look before your sister said something, that's all that mattered. Spending a Saturday spray painting stuff because of one comment seems like overkill to me. A room doesn't need to be magazine perfect to feel like home.

My own gallery wall looked like a dorm room until I swapped all the glass for cheap anti-glare plexi. It's a subtle change that makes art look more intentional, and I get what david821 means about not overthinking it, but sometimes one small tweak just feels right.
