Stopped hating on peel-and-stick tile after seeing my neighbor's kitchen in Phoenix

Visited my neighbor Jen last Saturday and her whole backsplash was the cheap peel-and-stick stuff from Lowe's, cost her $42 total and looked exactly like the real subway tile I spent $300 on, so what am I missing about the cheaper route being just as good?

Did you see what she used for the flooring? I swear I spent like 3 hours in the tile aisle at the hardware store last week and nearly had a panic attack over prices. My neighbor did her whole kitchen backsplash with those peel and stick subway tiles and it actually looks decent, not gonna lie. I tried that once in my laundry room and three of them fell off within a month, so maybe I just picked a bad brand or something. The whole thing about home projects is you never really know what you're getting into until you've already bought all the supplies.
