PSA: swapping an outlet for $3 nearly burned my kitchen down, so now I want to hear both sides
I was at a house in Akron helping a buddy tile his backsplash when the outlet he'd swapped himself started arcing behind the wall, and we had to cut the breaker and pull the box out at 11pm. Some folks say any homeowner can watch a video and do it for $3 in parts, others say pay the $150 for an electrician and be done. Which side are you on?

What makes you sure it was the swap itself and not the old wiring behind it? I've seen plenty of outlets that were installed fine and still started arcing because the wires were loose or the box was packed with dust and junk. The $3 fix versus the $150 guy is the wrong question, the real one is whether whoever does it knows how to check what's already back there.
